LA CHIMERA

The plot is simple. An English treasure hunter emerges from jail to resurrect his disparate gang to find and sell Etruscan antiquities, no questions asked. They hope to kiss poverty goodbye. If it was only that easy for this pack of eccentric characters.
This film itself is not as simple, shaped as a dreamy homage to the heights of Italian cinema by director Alice Rohrwacher. Underlying the fighting, singing and thieving, she exposes a poignant contrast between the ancient Italian culture of past glories that can now be plundered for immediate gain…but at a haunting cost.
