Bachman employs archival pictures and footage to chronical the emergence and world wide stardom of a true rock and roll star. Director John Barnard’s interviews with Randy’s contemporaries bring to life the early days in Winnipeg which eventually gave us two renowned bands: The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive. Most Canadians can recognize these anthems of prairie Rock and Roll in a split second: “Takin Care of Business”, “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” and “American Woman” …amongst so many.
The stories and recollections from fellow musicians illuminate a man dedicated to his art and his life choices which eventually caused him to exit his own successful creations.
Always a craftsman, a guitar is never out of Randy’s reach. While others took on what is called the Rock and Roll lifestyle, Randy’s focus was and remains on the music. He continues to perform, works with young artists to help them realize their dreams and is the long running host of CBC Radio’s Vinyl Tap.
Premiering at the 2018 Hot Docs Festival in Toronto in May, Bachman most recently won the audience choice award at the Gimli Film Festival.
Director John Barnard has previously profiled musicians with his 2012 film “The Sheep Dogs Have At It”. He also directed the 2016 film “Menorca”.
“Bachman delivers the goods. It takes care of business, and then some.” — Greg Klymkiw
